Why do people hate MLM so much? Honest discussion

I joined a network marketing company 6 months ago and I am genuinely shocked by the amount of hatred toward MLM online. When I tell people what I do, I get eye rolls and lectures about pyramid schemes. I understand some companies are predatory, but mine has real products that I genuinely use and love. Why is there so much negativity? Is it because of bad companies ruining the reputation for everyone? Because people had bad experiences? Or is there something fundamentally wrong with the business model itself? I want to hear from both sides.

To everyone who lost money in MLM - it is okay. You are not a failure. You took a risk and it did not work out. That makes you braver than all the people who criticize from the sidelines. Dust yourself off and apply what you learned to your next venture.

My story is different. I joined an MLM at 23 with no business experience. Failed miserably for the first year. Almost quit 5 times. But I stuck with it and now 4 years later I earn more than I did at my corporate job. The difference was finding a mentor who actually cared about my success, not just their commission.

I was a top earner making $15K per month. I walked away from it 2 years ago because I could not handle the guilt anymore. Watching people I recruited lose money while I profited from their purchases was eating me alive. I now have a regular job and sleep much better at night.
