Herbalife paid $200 million to settle with the FTC and was forced to restructure its business. The FTC found that the vast majority of Herbalife distributors who pursue the business opportunity make little or no money, and a significant percentage lose money. But Herbalife is still operating and some people claim to be successful with it. My neighbor just joined and is trying to recruit me. For those who have experience with Herbalife - is it worth it now? Have things actually changed since the FTC settlement?

Former Herbalife nutrition club owner here. I invested $25,000 to set up my club. First year was brutal - barely covered rent. Second year I started making about $3,000 per month. Third year I was at $6,000 per month. Then COVID hit and I lost everything. The business model worked but it was fragile.
What would you say to someone who is 3 months in and has not made any money yet? At what point should they evaluate whether to continue or cut their losses?
Your story mirrors mine almost exactly. I want you to know that it gets better. I left my MLM 2 years ago and it took about 6 months to stop feeling embarrassed. Now I can talk about it openly and even laugh about some of the ridiculous things I did. Healing takes time but it happens.
I joined Amway in college because a senior student recruited me. Spent $2,000 I did not have on products and tools. Made $47 in commissions over 6 months. Dropped out of the business but the experience taught me to always research before investing in anything.
Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing this. The shame and embarrassment after leaving an MLM is real and not talked about enough. You are not stupid for joining - these companies spend millions on making their opportunity look irresistible. You were targeted by professional marketers.
