I set up a booth at my local farmers market to sell my MLM skincare products. Cost of booth rental: $75. Products displayed: about $500 worth. Hours spent: 8 hours. What happened: Most people walked by without stopping. Those who stopped were interested until they heard the prices. Several people asked me if it was an MLM and immediately lost interest when I said yes. I sold $45 worth of product. A lady two booths down selling homemade soap outsold me 10 to 1. Reality check: people want affordable products, not premium MLM pricing. Has anyone had success selling MLM products at markets or fairs?

To everyone who lost money in MLM - it is okay. You are not a failure. You took a risk and it did not work out. That makes you braver than all the people who criticize from the sidelines. Dust yourself off and apply what you learned to your next venture.
Reading all these comments makes me realize how many people have been through similar experiences. Maybe we should start a support group for former MLM distributors. Not to bash the industry, but to help people process their experiences and move forward.
The best advice I ever got was to spend 80% of my time on customer acquisition and 20% on recruiting. Most new distributors do the opposite because recruiting has bigger potential payoffs. But without customers, you are just building a house of cards.
Thank you for your vulnerability in sharing this. The shame and embarrassment after leaving an MLM is real and not talked about enough. You are not stupid for joining - these companies spend millions on making their opportunity look irresistible. You were targeted by professional marketers.
