The MLM culture of relentless positivity is actually damaging mental health. You are told to be positive 24/7, that negative thoughts cause failure, and that expressing doubt means you lack belief. When I was struggling financially in my MLM, I could not talk about it honestly because it was seen as being negative. The result? I developed anxiety because I was suppressing real emotions while pretending everything was amazing on social media. Has anyone else experienced mental health issues related to the toxic positivity culture in MLM?

If you are going to do MLM, track EVERY expense from day one. Most people have no idea how much they are actually spending versus earning. Create a spreadsheet with every product purchase, sample, event ticket, gas, and tool subscription. The numbers will tell you the truth.
This should be required reading for anyone thinking about joining an MLM. Not to scare them away, but so they go in with realistic expectations instead of the fairy tales their upline tells them.
Former Herbalife nutrition club owner here. I invested $25,000 to set up my club. First year was brutal - barely covered rent. Second year I started making about $3,000 per month. Third year I was at $6,000 per month. Then COVID hit and I lost everything. The business model worked but it was fragile.
I think the industry is going through a necessary evolution. Companies that survive will be the ones that shift toward genuine customer acquisition, transparent income disclosures, and products that can compete on merit without the MLM price premium. The old model of recruit-recruit-recruit is dying.
This is really helpful. Do you have a link to the income disclosure statement you mentioned? I have been trying to find it for my company but they make it surprisingly hard to locate.
